Activities at Whitewater Place Care Home

Activities will be an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators will bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which will be reflected in the activities they organise.

Sophie Smith

Sophie Smith

Activities Coordinator

Hello! My name is Sophie, and I’m the Activities Co-ordinator at Whitewater Place. I’ve worked in adult social care since I was 18, beginning as a carer, before discovering my passion for creating meaningful lifestyle and wellbeing experiences.

Growing up with a mum who managed care homes inspired my interest in dementia care from an early age, leading me to become a dementia trainer, supporting care teams to help people living with dementia to continue to thrive. I’ve worked across a variety of care settings, and my life enrichment work has been recognised by the University of Worcester and the Surrey Care Awards.

Outside of work, I perform with a local amateur dramatics group and enjoy gardening. Having moved from Staines to Alton in 2025, I’m excited to become part of the local community and look forward to getting to know the people of Odiham and beyond.

Celebrating life at Whitewater Place Care Home

The Start of our Intergenerational Journey

The Start of our Intergenerational Journey

It was lovely to meet with Nathalie from Baby Beats and local mums who joined on her community walk at the beautiful Southwood Country Park. We enjoyed a pleasant walk as the weather has cooled down, and chatted about our children and grandchildren. Lawrence and Philip both enjoyed spending time with the mums, children and babies and Lawrence especially enjoyed cuddles with the twins. We are very excited to start Intergenerational sessions at Whitewater Place in September with Nathalie and the community.
What an Amazing Day!

What an Amazing Day!

We had the best time celebrating out official opening after gaining our CQC registration! The local community were amazing in turning out to help us celebrate in style in the glorious sunshine! Big thanks to all those who came, it meant so much to us to hear such positivity about the home and we are so delighted to have welcomed out first residents already! A big cheer also to the incredible team that helped make it all happen. Exciting times ahead for Whitewater Place!

Wimbledon at Whitewater Place

Wimbledon at Whitewater Place

For Wimbledon 2026, we have been enjoying matches shown across our TV's and in our cinema room. We've been having plenty of strawberries & cream and refreshments, with people coming along to enjoy all the action right from Day One of the Championships.

Visitors have also had the opportunity of owning a piece of Wimbledon history, by purchasing a tennis ball used in the 2025 Championships. Could their ball have been served by Alcaraz in the final, or volleyed by Brits, Sonay Kartel, Alfie Hewitt or Cam Norrie?! All proceeds from the event are going directly to the Odiham Tennis Club.
Supporting Local People

Almost 6,000 nominations were received from homes and hospitals across the UK. All entries were of a very high standard and Symoun is over the moon to have been named Chef of the Year for the South West after beating dozens of other chef nominees to make it to the Divisional Cook-Offs and then be crowned Divisional Winner! We are so proud of what Symoun has achieved!

Barchester Care Awards

Barchester Care Awards

Huge congratulations to our incredible Head Chef, Symoun, who has been nominated for the Barchester Care Awards!

Symoun started his Barchester journey at Ashcombe House where his passion, creativity and talent in the kitchen quickly stood out. He has continued to showcase his skills, leadership and flair in the kitchen as Head Chef at Marnel Lodge and, now, we are so proud to have him bring his expertise to Whitewater Place as our Head Chef.

His next challenge... A regional cook-off to hopefully secure a place in the Division Finals! We'll be cheering him on and are so proud of everything he has achieved. Good luck, Symoun - bring that trophy home!
The Sunflower Café

The Sunflower Café

Our Home Services Advisor Clare was recently invited to The Sunflower Cafe in Odiham. She went along and thoroughly enjoyed the warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The Sunflower Café supports local people who are living with dementia and they do a fantastic job.
We are looking forward to seeing the relationship between the café and Whitewater Place grow, giving us opportunity to reach and help more people living with dementia.
