Activities at Sherwood Lodge Care Home

After much consideration of what to do with the wonderful gifts donated to us earlier in the week, the staff at Sherwood Lodge thought that offering Joan a new stuffed toy would bring her comfort and joy.

Joan was brought to the office where donations were being sorted, and was offered a choice of two dogs to choose from. This brought back many memories of Joan’s previous dogs, and she fondly reminisced on the two dogs she had and the 10 pups she then had to sell!   

We hope this toy brings Joan comfort and company during the time she spends in her room and is a meaningful companion for her at Sherwood Lodge.

Our residents enjoyed completing an array of activities this afternoon. From knitting, to jigsaws, puzzles and colouring, there was something for everyone today.

Despite each resident doing their own thing, they each shared joy and laughter as they talked over an activity and enjoyed a brew together.

It’s afternoons like these that create a wonderful sense of joy and friendship within the home.

Our residents were very proud to present our collection of knitted squares to Ruth from the Women's Institute.

These squares are going to be sewn together into blankets and sent to Ukraine to provide comfort and warmth to those affected by the ongoing conflict. 

Well done to our residents Pauline, Elsie, Marie and Ruth, our Knit and Natter friends Catherine and Sheila, and our Activities Coordinator Maria, who collectively knit/crocheted over 40 squares for this great cause.

Happy Father's Day to all our Dad's at Sherwood Lodge.

We have had a lovely day celebrating with all our gentlemen, and making them all feel special and adored. A delicious ploughman spread was made by our chef along with a shandy or two.

Thank you to all of our families that came to enjoy the afternoon with their loved ones, making precious memories.    

We’ve got our steps in today with a walk through the beautiful Masonwood.

The ladies enjoyed the sunshine as they chatted away and laughed amongst themselves during the walk. The sun, fresh air and exercise has certainly done wonders for them as they brought a lively and energetic atmosphere into the home on their return.

It’s amazing what a short walk can do for our residents physical and mental wellbeing.  

What an incredible show put on by Tom from Mini Concerts!

The Sherwood Lodge dance floor has never been so full! Everyone certainly loved this wonderful performance of 50s rock and roll music. It is amazing to see our residents have a blast, singing along and dancing with each other.

These shows support our residents in reminiscing on memories, while creating new ones and fostering incredible friendships within the home.

One of the residents at Sherwood Lodge, Roger, went on a ride in a beautiful vintage Triumph Stag! Roger was delighted to go for a spin in this incredible car, clear from his giant grin from the passenger seat!

We’re so glad Roger had this incredible experience, it definitely brightened his day and made him feel young again.            

Sherwood Lodge are already buzzing with excitement for this years World Cup! 

Our residents are enjoying a spectacular viewing experience of the biggest sporting event of the year on our brand new big screen in the café!    

Even though the official tournament has not yet started, the atmosphere and excitement is electric during the friendlies in the lead up to the official kick off tonight!  

Our residents can't wait to support England through the 2026 World Cup!  

We’re truly feeling the Wimbledon Fever here at Sherwood Lodge.

Our residents happily gathered to enjoy the matches on our big screen in the café before being treated to delicious strawberries and cream and a refreshing glass of Pimm’s and lemonade. There was no way anyone could turn down such an appetising treat displayed so nicely by our incredible kitchen staff.

The excitement and gratitude is clear from the bright smiles on our residents' faces. Cheers to a wonderful Wimbledon season ahead of us.

This morning some of our creative residents made beautiful May flower baskets.      

Clear from the lovely smiles of our residents, they really enjoyed making the small baskets and filling them with gorgeous flowers. Each of them were really impressed with the arrangement they had put together.

This activity was a lovely way to start our week, bringing joy, relaxation and positivity to our residents.

Some of our residents enjoyed a wonderful day out in Barton Grange.

They enjoyed reminiscing on their many trips there in the past as they stopped and smelled the flowers. Plenty of laughs were shared in the café as they enjoyed delicious drinks and treats, creating wonderful new memories to share together.

All the staff and residents at Sherwood Lodge were delighted to celebrate our carer, Shiobhan, ahead of her wedding day. The celebration was marked with cake, gifts, a card full of heartfelt messages from all the team and the residents. 

With decades of marriage experience behind them, our residents each shared a peace of marriage advice for Shiobhan, which can be summed up by loving each other, listening to each other and being patient with each other! We can all agree that that advice is perfect and timeless for any relationship.      

Happy Carer’s Week to our wonderful hardworking carers!  

There isn’t enough chocolate in the world to amount to our appreciation for the hard work, care and compassion our carers put into their jobs, day in day out, but hopefully this is a good start.

Their commitment makes a huge difference to the lives of our residents, and we are glad to have the opportunity to celebrate them and the incredible impact they make on our home.   

The ladies from Sherwood Lodge would like to extend a huge thank you to all the staff and students at Our Lady's Catholic High School who put on a wonderful afternoon tea for care homes in the area. There was a delicious spread of cakes, pastries and scones, and the students were excellent at making sure there was never an empty plate. Throughout the afternoon, there was also wonderful entertainment including, singing and dancing, poems and comedic skits from the students, as well as bingo and quizzes for the residents to play.

The residents had a wonderful afternoon, socialising with the students and enjoying the activities! They were all very impressed with the event put on by the students! One resident even fondly recalled watching her grandchildren’s plays in the school, amazed by the stage they have and the incredible staff that encourage such creativity.     

This week at Sherwood Lodge we have celebrated VE Day with a wonderful performance by Rachel Mercer and plenty of VE Day themed activities! 

The home was decked out in Union Jacks for the occasion, bringing a bright and patriotic atmosphere to the home as residents sang along and danced to brilliant wartime tunes during the music performance.

Residents then enjoyed taking their time to work through VE Day themed activity packs from Oomph, encouraging reminiscence of the event through short articles on the history of VE Day, colouring pages, quizzes, puzzles and more.
